About JML Design

A well-designed home should feel effortless, deeply personal and considered in every detail.

At JML Design, we believe good design is about more than how a space looks. It is about how it supports your routines, solves everyday frustrations and creates a home that feels considered, personal and genuinely easy to live in.

Based between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, JML Design works with homeowners, builders and trade professionals across South East Queensland, Northern New South Wales and beyond.

We are best suited to clients who value thoughtful design, clear communication, collaboration and attention to detail. Whether you are renovating, building or reimagining your home, our role is to help you make confident decisions, avoid costly mistakes and create spaces that feel cohesive, practical and beautifully resolved.

Our Approach

Renovating, building or furnishing a home can feel overwhelming. There are plans to review, layouts to refine, finishes to select, electrical and lighting decisions to consider, joinery details to resolve, furniture to source and budgets to keep in mind.

Our process is designed to bring clarity to those decisions.

We take the time to understand how you live, how you move through your home and what each space needs to hold, from the rush of everyday routines to the quieter moments of retreat. We listen closely to what is not working, what you are drawn to and how you want your home to feel, so every decision is guided by more than just how something looks.

From there, we create a clear design direction that considers the bigger picture. The layout, lighting, finishes, furnishings and hidden details are all considered together, so your home feels cohesive, personal and deeply connected to the way you live.

The result is a home that feels calm, resolved and easy to be in, where the practical details have been considered from the beginning and the everyday moments feel more effortless.

Meet Julia

I’m Julia Lloyd, Founder and Principal Interior Designer of JML Design.

My background spans interior and building design, lighting design, visual merchandising, styling and retail leadership, which means I look at a home from both a creative and practical perspective. I care about how a space looks, but also how it works, how it feels, how it is used and how all the details come together.

With a Diploma of Interior Design and Building Design, lighting design accreditation and recognition as Student of the Year, I bring a considered and detail-focused approach to every project. Through JML Design, I help clients bring clarity to the many decisions involved in renovating, building and furnishing a home.

I have always been drawn to the details. The layout that makes everyday life flow more easily. The lighting that shifts with the rhythm of the day. The subtle design decisions you may not notice at first, but feel in the way a space works. The final styling layer that makes a space feel warm, personal and complete.

Outside the studio, life is usually centred around family, food and time outdoors. I love spending time with my husband, our son and our little Frenchie, especially in the warmer months when afternoons by the pool, music, good food and conversation with friends become the best kind of simple pleasure.

Those everyday moments are often what inspire my approach to design. A home should support the way life naturally unfolds, from the busy morning routine to the quiet place you retreat to at the end of the day.

Award-winning design, grounded in everyday living

JML Design is a proud KBDi member and recipient of the 2025 KBDi Queensland Small Bathrooms Award, with work featured in Completehome and Kitchens & Bathrooms Quarterly.

Our award-winning bathroom project began with a common design challenge: a compact bathroom and separate toilet that did not make the most of the available footprint. By reworking the layout and bringing the two spaces together, we created one beautifully resolved bathroom with improved functionality, layered lighting and attention to detail.

It is an honour to have this project recognised by the industry, particularly for a space that reflects so much of what we value at JML Design: considered planning, practical functionality and design details that support everyday living.

Testimonial

“My vision was brought to life exactly as I had hoped. The communication and collaboration process were broken down into easy-to-understand questions and terminology given my lack of experience and knowledge in the design and building space. I would recommend JML Design to others very much so and have done so already.”
